Must-have travel products for dental care
Must-have travel products for dental care: There are plenty of oral care products on the market and you may have even received a cool new electric toothbrush or perhaps a water pick for the holidays. Though, some products just don’t travel as easily as others. At Shane McDowell Dentistry we want to support you in your oral hygiene efforts even when you are on the road. In this article we will share special tips for creating your “must-have” dental travel kit.
An essential for any traveling by plane, train or car is your dental travel kit. Before heading out on a business trip or a vacation, plan on taking a few moments to put together the following items:
Soft-bristled travel toothbrush: Consider buying these in bulk so that you always have a back-up toothbrush on hand for your traveling needs. Remember to toss out your used toothbrush every 3-6 months to ensure effective cleaning.
Toothbrush cap: Caps best help protect your toothbrush from germs, dirt or dust. If you are traveling with family, many toothbrush cap packages are sold in quantities of four and have a variety of colors to personalize your own.
Fluoride toothpaste: Fluoride toothpaste helps remove plaque, which can cause gum disease and tooth decay.
Floss and floss threaders: Floss helps to remove food particles trapped between teeth that could form into bacteria that hardens into plaque or tartar. For those who have braces, implants, bridges or connected crowns, using a floss threader can help thread floss where most other products can’t reach.
Fluoride mouthwash: Mouthwash does more than just freshen up your breath. With the combination of brushing, flossing and mouthwash, you can significantly reduce your risk of bacteria in dental plaque. When selecting the right mouthwash for you, remember to select the mouthwash with the ADA seal on it. This will ensure you are using a product that has been objectively tested for safety and effectiveness.
Beyond the basics, for those individuals who have braces, interproximal brushes and wax may also be important. While there are ready-to-go dental care travel kits available on the market, you can create your own using a plastic pencil box to store your items, which work great for making these kits and keeping them handy!
